
Samsung is preparing to break its five-year, Snapdragon-only streak on its top flagship by bringing in-house Exynos silicon back to the Galaxy S27 Ultra. According to supply chain reports from South Korean media, Samsung MX and System LSI are already coordinating motherboard production for an Exynos-powered version of the upcoming Ultra.
Rather than abandoning Qualcomm entirely, Samsung plans a regional dual-sourcing model where US models retain Snapdragon processors while variants bound for South Korea, Europe, and select international markets get the new Exynos 2700.
Promising internal benchmarks and 2nm architecture
This sudden shift late in the development cycle comes down to impressive internal benchmark results. Built on Samsung Foundry’s second-generation 2nm-class process (SF2P), the Exynos 2700 delivered a 19% boost in CPU performance over standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 tests in Geekbench evaluation, along with roughly 10% higher output compared to the Pro version.
Under the hood, the silicon incorporates a 10-core CPU and an Xclipse 970 GPU. Plus, there’s an advanced side-by-side packaging engineered specifically to dissipate heat and improve energy efficiency. The chip also features support for next-gen LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage. However, real-world thermal management remains the crucial factor, as earlier Exynos generations frequently struggled with throttling under sustained gaming sessions.
Four S27 models and visual camera redesigns
Beyond processor strategy, regulatory filings and CAD renders show Samsung expanding the lineup to four distinct models: the base Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, a new compact Galaxy S27 Pro, and the flagship Galaxy S27 Ultra.
The premium Pro and Ultra variants adopt a noticeable visual update. It will feature a wider, horizontal camera island across the upper rear panel, while the base S27 and S27+ keep a vertical arrangement. On the camera front, leaks point to a modest battery size increase alongside the removal of the older 10MP 3x telephoto sensor to rely fully on an upgraded 50MP 5x telephoto camera.
Familiar charging specs and launch window
According to the reports, the power delivery segment remains conservative across the entire family. Certifications confirm that the standard Galaxy S27 sticks to 25W wired charging, while the S27+, Pro, and Ultra maintain 45W speeds. All will ship without a wall charger in the box, as has been usual in recent years in Galaxy flagships—and even mid-rangers.
As of today, this potential comeback with the Exynos 2700 on the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra awaits final confirmation. Still, it signals renewed internal confidence in Samsung’s semiconductor division.
