Nothing has spent the last few weeks trying to build anticipation for its upcoming July 7 hardware event. However, a group of clumsy retail partners just took the wind out of the company’s sails. Just hours before the official British brand unveiling, a massive gallery of official marketing renders sourced directly from internal distributor databases surfaced. The leak leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination, stripping away the mystery surrounding the Nothing Ear (3a) wireless earbuds with detailed renders in all their colors and confirming some key features.
Vibrant aesthetics and a tighter package
The latest leak comes from the German tech publication WinFuture which managed to get its hands on it. The leaked images confirm that Nothing is sticking with its signature aesthetic, using a translucent plastic shell that shows off the internal engineering of the hardware. Structurally, the Ear (3a) acts as the direct successor to the popular 2024 Ear (a). Still, it introduces a few notable ergonomic tweaks. The accompanying charging case has undergone a shrinking process, ditching the older rectangular inner design for a more compact, rounded footprint that should slide much easier into a coin pocket.
Color variety is the real highlight here. While the traditional black and white options remain available, Nothing is doubling down on highly saturated, eye-catching schemes. The iconic bright yellow hue from the previous generation makes a return. But this time, it is joined by a newcomer: a vibrant, deeply saturated hot pink variant. This punchy pink finish cleanly complements recent hardware ecosystem rollouts like the Phone (4a). This is the one Nothing hilariously teased with the “Just the tip” phrase.
Upgraded audio and mysterious features
On the technical side of the equation, the WinFuture leak outlines a solid audio package for a budget tier. The earbuds step up to larger 12mm speaker drivers—a tiny bump over the 11mm hardware found in the older generation. They also include official support for LDAC alongside Hi-Res Audio Wireless capabilities. This means Android users listening to high-quality streaming services can expect richer, cleaner sound over standard Bluetooth protocols.
The promotional graphics also point to some interesting new interface interactions handled via the touch-sensitive stems. Renders explicitly highlight tools labeled as “Call Recording” and an intriguing feature named “Audio Snapshots.” While the operational specifics of audio snapshots remain under wraps, the name suggests it will likely function as a quick, localized voice memo tool designed to capture ideas or brief voice notes on the fly.
Fortunately for budget-minded buyers, the retail leak points to a stable launch price of €99 (around $99 in the US market). So, there won’t be a price increase, which is great news in the current tech scenario.
The Android Headlines Take
Based on background, these earbuds will probably sound great for their price. However, beyond that, Nothing continues to provide that affordable personal audio does not have to look like a boring, derivative clone of the AirPods. While most tech brands are terrified of using loud color palettes, the hot pink and electric yellow versions of the Ear (3a) are a refreshing breath of fresh air for consumer electronics. The hardware upgrades here are subtle but highly practical; a smaller pocket footprint and larger drivers are exactly what budget buyers want out of an iteration.
If the touch-activated call recording feature works seamlessly across multiple software layers, this €99 pair of buds might end up overshadowing the Phone (4b) launch altogether.
