Buying a brand-new iPhone usually means deciding between the regular base model and a much pricier flagship phone. Apple took a completely different route during its latest hardware refresh by skipping the standard base iPhone altogether. That unusual strategy paid off in a huge way, pushing quarterly iPhone sales to an all-time record thanks to surging demand for premium models.
The tech giant reported a 17% jump in iPhone revenue, pulling in $57.58 billion over the three-month period. Those financial results look even more impressive when you consider that Wall Street expected sales to land about a billion dollars lower. Overall quarterly revenue climbed 12% to reach $114.5 billion under new chief executive John Ternus, who recently took over after Tim Cook stepped down (via The Verge).
Higher component costs and folding hardware
Apple pulled off these record figures by focusing heavily on its expensive iPhone 18 Pro lineup while raising prices across older phones. The company also unveiled its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, though preorder numbers have not hit the official financial balance sheet yet. Speaking with CNBC, Ternus noted that rising memory component costs squeezed overall profit margins. Smart inventory management helped soften the financial impact, though.
That push into premium gear helped drive big numbers across several other hardware divisions as well. Mac revenue jumped 24% to reach $10.79 billion, while subscription services and App Store fees hit an all-time record of $31.57 billion. iPad sales were the only real weak spot on the balance sheet, falling 10% down to $6.23 billion for the quarter.
Smart home gear and touchscreen laptops
Beyond smartphones, Apple has been making some surprising changes across its broader product roadmap lately. The company pushed into the smart home space by launching its first smart display alongside connected doorbells and security cameras built with industry partners. Apple also surprised tech fans by revealing a touchscreen MacBook Pro, reversing a long-held design stance that executives argued against for years.
Relying on high-end Pro models worked wonders this quarter, but keeping up this sales momentum will take real effort. Shipping estimates for the new iPhone Duo already stretch all the way into 2027, and supply chain pressures are not disappearing anytime soon.
