As it stands, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max feature 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays respectively. It is expected that this year’s iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models will keep using similar displays. However, that could change in 2027 as the iPhone 20 Pro models could sport larger displays.
iPhone 20 Pro models could come with larger displays
According to tipster Digital Chat Station in a post on Weibo, Apple is prototyping two new displays for its 2027 iPhone 20 Pro models. If the tipster is right, we could be looking at slightly larger displays, with the Pro model going to 6.4-inches and the Pro Max jumping up to 7-inches.
Overall, this represents a 0.1-inch increase in size. It’s not particularly dramatic, but we suppose every little bit counts. It’s also not the first time we’ve heard this rumor. In fact, back in July, Digital Chat Station posted something similar, so we suppose at the very least, their reports are consistent.
For those worried about the larger footprint, don’t. According to the rumors, Apple might use a curved display with minimal bezels. This means that even though the display sizes are going up, the bezel-less design could allow it to maintain a similar size to the current iPhone models.
There are also rumors that Apple could create an iPhone made out of glass and metal. This makes it a bit different from the iPhones we’ve been seeing in recent years.
Why is this a big deal?
For those unfamiliar, 2027 is actually the 20th anniversary since the first iPhone launched. So it’s to no one’s surprise that Apple is pulling out all the stops in terms of design. Apple already did something with the 10th anniversary iPhone, which came in the form of the iPhone X.
This was the first iPhone to ditch the physical home button. It was also the first time Apple introduced the use of OLED display panels in its iPhone, and also the first iPhone to sport Face ID facial recognition technology. So far, the rumors of the 20th anniversary iPhone only suggest a change in design.
We’re not sure if there are plans to introduce new features, so we’ll have to wait and see. Until then, take it with a grain of salt.
