
If you’ve always been curious as to what Apple’s 20th anniversary iPhone could look like, it seems that Apple might have already clued us in. According to a report from Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo, the iPhone 20 series could feature an Air-like design with improved cooling.
iPhone 20 could feature Air-like thinness and better cooling
In their post on Weibo, Fixed Focus Digital reiterates the claims that the iPhone 20 could feature construction made from metal and glass. They even suggest that the phone could feature a mid-frame similar to the iPhone Air. It’s actually kind of interesting because previously, the iPhone Air was rumored to be some kind of engineering testbed for the upcoming foldable iPhone Ultra. However, it seems that Apple had more in mind.
This isn’t a bad thing. Granted, the iPhone Air lacked a lot of features and compromised on specs compared to the regular iPhones. But at the same time, its thinness was impressive. If you ever held one in the store, you know what we mean.
In addition to sharing design philosophies, the post suggests the iPhone 20 could feature improved cooling. This comes in the form of vapor chamber cooling technology that has apparently been upsized by 1-inch. That’s quite dramatic and could potentially improve its performance considerably.
Not the first iPhone with vapor chamber
That being said, this isn’t the first iPhone from Apple to support vapor chamber tech. That honor goes to the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. Prior to that, Apple’s iPhones relied on graphite sheets to help dissipate heat. This was never really an issue, but of course, vapor chambers offer superior cooling capabilities.
This is because graphite sheets spread heat out passively. This means that if you’re in a hot environment, like outdoors on a sunny day during summer, graphite sheets aren’t quite as effective due to the temperature difference shrinking. But vapor chambers are active cooling, which means that they are more effective during hotter days.
It’s interesting because one of the reasons the iPhone Air relied on graphite sheets was due to its thinness. But if Fixed Focus Digital is correct, Apple might have found a way around that problem.
