The wait is officially over: Apple just dropped iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 for iPhones and iPads worldwide. Packed with a conversational Siri AI overhaul, fresh system visuals, and a massive wave of Apple Intelligence tools, this update is easily one of Apple’s biggest software releases in years.
You can grab the update right now for free by heading over to Settings, tapping General, and hitting Software Update. Just keep in mind that launch-day server traffic might mean waiting a few extra minutes for the download to finish.
Meet the new Siri AI
The star of the show in iOS 27 is Siri AI. Built on custom foundation models in collaboration with Google’s Gemini technology, Apple completely rebuilt its virtual assistant to handle actual conversations. By leveraging on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute, Siri can now follow along with natural follow-up questions without forcing you to rephrase your thoughts.
It also gains real-time onscreen awareness and Visual Intelligence through a new Camera mode. You can ask questions about photos, websites, or physical objects sitting in front of you. Plus, you can invoke Siri by swiping down from the Dynamic Island to type a quick request or jump into a brand-new Siri app that privately syncs your chat history across your Apple devices using iCloud.
Apple Intelligence and Liquid Glass tweaks
Beyond the assistant, Apple Intelligence brings a lot of fun tools to everyday apps. In Photos, a new Spatial Reframing feature lets you adjust camera angles after you shoot, while the Extend tool uses generative infill to expand image borders. The Clean Up tool also gets a huge upgrade, letting you erase larger distractions with impressive realism.
Safari gets much smarter too. It can now automatically group your open tabs by topic, notify you when prices drop on a product page, or build custom extensions based on plain text descriptions. On top of that, Apple refined its Liquid Glass visual style, adding a handy slider in Settings so you can tweak the interface from ultra-clear to fully tinted. There’s also a noticeable system performance boost with app launches around 30% faster.

Upgraded parental controls and accessibility
Apple did not forget about security and usability in this update. Redesigned Screen Time settings give parents far better tools to manage child accounts, complete with website browsing approvals, expanded content safety filters, and age-tailored schedules across gaming and social apps.
Accessibility receives some of the best upgrades in the whole update. VoiceOver now offers conversational screen explanations, the Magnifier app adds real-time visual assistance for low-vision users, and an upgraded Accessibility Reader generates instant summaries and text formatting on demand.
Device limits and regional rollouts
iOS 27 installs on older hardware like the iPhone 11 series and second-gen iPhone SE. However, Siri AI requires serious processing power. To use the new AI features, you will need an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 model or newer. On iPad, Apple Intelligence requires M-series chips or the A17 Pro iPad mini.
Apple is kicking off the Siri AI rollout in English first, with support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish landing next month. Due to ongoing compliance work under the Digital Markets Act, Siri AI features are currently on pause in the European Union and China while Apple works on regional solutions.
