HONOR is reportedly readying its next flagship series, the Magic 9. Like the predecessors, there could be multiple variants in the series. However, we’re concerned just about the HONOR Magic 9 for today, as some of its specs have leaked online. This reveals some additional details of the phone from the previous leak months ago.
HONOR Magic 9 may arrive with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and an 8,000mAh battery
Reliable leaker Digital Chat Station is the source of the leak, who, in a new Weibo post, has spilled the beans. According to the leak, the HONOR Magic 9 features a 6.36-inch display, which could be an LTPS OLED panel, going by the speculations on the web. The phone is reportedly being tested with Qualcomm’s existing 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. So, it’s not the 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 as previously believed. This is the same chip that powers the HONOR Magic 8. If this pans out, we might not see any major performance upgrades.
There are chances the company may reserve the newer chip for the Pro models. But it’s not for certain, though. He adds that the battery could start with an 8,000mAh capacity, which is quite massive for such a compact flagship. This is a jump from the 7,000mAh cell on the predecessor. While he mentions wireless charging, there’s no explicit mention of the speed it supports.

Additionally, the HONOR Magic 9 specs will also include full-level water resistance with IP68/IP69 ratings. There’s also a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor in the mix. As for photography, the prototype apparently features a 64MP periscope telephoto camera, using the OmniVision OV64D sensor.Â
Previous leaks revealed that, besides the 64MP camera, the rear camera setup may also include a 200MP camera with a 1/2.8-inch large sensor and a 50MP ultrawide lens. Rumors have it that HONOR’s partnership with the German professional cinema industry brand ARRI will result in an enhanced videography and photography experience on the Magic 9 series.
We’re still months away from the HONOR Magic 9 series launch. They may debut in October in China.
