Google is rolling out a fresh round of background updates with Google Play services version 26.29 and Play Store version 52.5 for July 2026. While these system patches usually pass by unnoticed, this specific package arrives packed with really handy tweaks that make daily life with your Android phone and smartwatch just a bit smoother.
Fewer steps on your wrist and cleaner settings
The biggest win here goes directly to Pixel Watch owners. Google first introduced Express Pay back in the March 2026 Pixel Feature Drop. However, you still needed your phone nearby to get things running. This latest Play services rollout fixes that. Now anyone with a Pixel Watch 2 or newer can finally set up Express Pay straight from their watch screen. Basically, you can skip the extra phone steps completely.
Google is also cleaning up its menu labels to stop confusing users. The section previously known as “Connected apps” across phones, tablets, PCs, TVs, cars, and smartwatches is now called “Linked apps.” It’s a simple name change, but it finally matches the wording Google uses in its official support pages. This way, settings menus won’t contradict help docs anymore.
Under the hood, version 26.29 delivers fresh Maps and utilities APIs for developers, system diagnostic patches, and Gboard integration for Pix payment users in Brazil.
Comics in your feed and smoother gaming
Over on the app side, Google Play Store v52.5 turns the store into a more fun place to browse. The Play Shorts feed isn’t just for app clips anymore. It now includes previews of popular comic books that you can swipe through and jump right into the full story whenever something catches your eye.
Mobile gamers also get a nice performance boost with a sturdier Play Games Sidekick dashboard designed to prevent annoying hitches during gameplay.
Plus, thanks to updates in the Engage SDK, travel apps can now remember your previous searches, so you can pick up your trip planning right where you left off instead of starting from scratch.
