Here we are again, with more issues on a Pixel phone. This time around, it’s the Google Pixel 8 Pro, which is apparently having a lot of WiFi and Bluetooth issues.
There is a new Reddit mega thread detailing these issues, so if you’re having any WiFi or Bluetooth issues with your Pixel 8 Pro, you’re not alone. The issue seemed to have started around January or February of this year, so it’s a fairly new issue. Users are reporting that they need to restart their phone each time the WiFi “dies”. But after a few weeks of doing this, one user reported that WiFI and Bluetooth functionality had completely died.
These are not new issues; there were reports of them last year that were never resolved, and some devices were replaced. Showing that Google really doesn’t care to acknowledge this issue.
There is an interesting fix for the Pixel 8 Pro. Basically, place the powered-off phone in an ice pack for a few minutes until it’s cold to the touch, then power it on, and WiFi will work while the device stays cold.
Essentially, this confirms that this is a thermal issue, resulting in WiFi and Bluetooth not working. Which is quite insane. But overheating is not new to Pixel devices, especially on earlier Tensor chips like the Pixel 8 series.
Warranty exchange might be the best option
If you’re still covered under warranty or bought Google’s extended care, then exchanging it is going to be your best option. But seeing as we’re more than two years since the launch of the Pixel 8 Pro, that might not be available for everyone. So the other option is to trade it in for something newer, like a Pixel 10.
It doesn’t look like Google’s going to push out any updates to fix this issue, even though they should. Especially if they want to keep these users as Pixel users. Many are likely going to switch to another brand.
