Google has been focusing on making things easier with Gemini, rather than more AI slop, and the latest feature the search giant is testing really proves it. Google is apparently testing a new “Device help” tool for the Google Pixel 11 series, powered by Gemini. This will allow you to have a conversation with Gemini about what’s going on with your phone, and Gemini can help you solve the issue.
This new feature can be found under “Device help” in the “plus” menu in Gemini. It’s going to be at the bottom of the list, just above Personal Intelligence, for now. This could change if the tests are successful, making it much easier to find. It appears to be a pretty limited test and not a mass rollout just yet. According to 9to5Google, it appears in the latest beta of the Google app, v17.52.
It’s worth noting that this feature still has a “Labs” badge, which means it is still an experiment and may or may not roll out to everyone. However, this could prove to be a very helpful tool in the long run, particularly for older users who are less tech-literate than their kids. Instead of your parents calling you for help, they can just chat with Gemini.
Gemini might be able to free up your storage soon
Another interesting aspect of this feature is that you can ask Gemini to help free up storage space or review your storage usage. This can be particularly helpful, especially if you’re on an older Pixel with only 128GB of storage. As that storage can disappear pretty quickly. Currently, it looks like this test is only being done on the Pixel 11 series.
Gemini will also be able to audit app permissions, manage app notifications, configure app timers, and even give you step-by-step guidance on features, gestures, camera capabilities, and privacy settings.
