Managing cluttered inboxes, coordinating meeting schedules, and drafting reports manually can drain hours from a workday. Google is expanding access to its personal automation agent, Gemini Spark, bringing autonomous workflow features to a much broader user base by expanding access to AI Pro subscribers as well.
Google first launched Gemini Spark at Google I/O exclusively for top-tier Google AI Ultra subscribers. Now, the AI ​​agent is rolling out to a much more affordable $20/month tier.
Global expansion is also underway for AI Ultra users paying between $100 and $200 monthly, though regional rollouts across the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the UK, and Nigeria remain on hold for now. On the other hand, free account holders and Google AI Plus subscribers will have to wait longer.
Building custom skills and automated triggers
Gemini Spark works differently from most conversational chatbots. Most AI assistants out there need detailed instructions for each action. However, Spark AI agent can perform multi-step tasks autonomously:
- Tasks: Broad, high-level goals specified by the user, e.g. conducting a business trip or composing a weekly report.
- Schedules: Automatic triggers based on conditions or time slots, e.g., sending an itinerary update if a flight is delayed.
- Skills: Reusable instructions that combine different tools—such as pulling travel details while simultaneously drafting confirmation emails in Gmail.
Users can run up to 15 active tasks concurrently, with computer resources managed through standard Gemini usage allowances.
Deeper Workspace integration across web and mobile
Spark is accessible via a dedicated tab on web browsers and standalone pages within iOS and Android applications. It can interact natively with Google’s productivity software to organize Gmail threads, generate custom Google Sheets workbooks complete with formulas, create presentation decks in Google Slides and manage Keep notes or Google Tasks.
To prevent unintended modifications, Google built specific user checks into the platform. While the system can perform bulk actions on private items within Google Tasks automatically, users must manually review and confirm any proposed edits to shared documents, spreadsheets, or slides before changes apply.
