Recent findings suggest some significant changes are coming to how users pay for and track their Google Gemini AI experience. If you have ever hit a “usage limit” wall in the middle of a project, the company might soon offer a middle ground. More specifically, Google would be working on a new “Google AI Ultra Lite” paid tier, as well as a dedicated page to view exactly your Gemini AI usage quotas.
Google’s upcoming AI Ultra Lite paid plan, codename “Neon”
Currently, Google’s AI subscription tiers have a massive gap. You can stick with the $20 AI Pro plan or jump all the way to the heavy-duty AI Ultra plan, which costs a steep $250 per month in the US. We can see a dissonance here as many power users—those especially using AI for coding or complex workflows—will find “Pro” insufficient but “Ultra” as too much for them.
Evidence found by 9to5Google in the Gemini app for macOS points to a new plan codenamed “Neon.” This one is currently referred to as Google AI Ultra Lite (tentative name). The goal is to offer a mid-level tier for people who need more than the basic Pro offering but don’t need the enterprise-level power of the Ultra plan. While there is no official price yet, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it land around the $100 mark. This way, it could compete with similar offerings from Anthropic and OpenAI.
Usage dashboard to track your AI tokens
One of the most frustrating parts of using high-end AI models is the mystery behind usage limits. You never quite know when you are about to be throttled. Google seems ready to fix this by launching a dedicated dashboard at gemini.google.com/usage.
This move supports a leak from last month, which suggested Google would soon allow users to track their exact AI usage. The new dashboard appears to show the following:
- Five-hour limits: How much you can use in a short window.
- Weekly budgets: Your total allowance for the week.
- Overage credits: A way to keep going even after you have hit your standard limit.
Having a visual indicator makes a huge difference. It allows you to more accurately calculate how to use your precious AI tokens. We will likely get more on this at the upcoming Google I/O event.
