If you bought an iPhone recently hoping to experience the future of AI and ended up with the same old Siri, you aren’t alone. In fact, you might be eligible for a payout. Apple has agreed to a $250 million settlement to resolve a class-action lawsuit accusing the company of misleading customers about its “Apple Intelligence” AI-powered features-—including Siri’s capabilities.
Apple will pay you for misleading AI and Siri features ads in lawsuit settlement
The legal trouble started back in 2025. Plaintiffs argued that Apple’s marketing created a false expectation that a powerful, AI-upgraded Siri would launch alongside the iPhone 16. Apple published ads (featuring actor Bella Ramsey) showing a revolutionary personal assistant. However, users found the features were either significantly delayed or entirely absent at launch.
The National Advertising Division eventually stepped in. It recommended Apple stop using the “available now” claim for these specific AI tools. While Apple has not admitted to any wrongdoing, they told the Financial Times that they settled the matter to stay focused on delivering innovative products.
Are you eligible?
The settlement covers about 36 million devices sold in the US. You might be part of it if you purchased any of the eligible models between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025. The list includes the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Eligible users will get between $25 and $95 per device, depending on how many people actually file a claim.
Apple still struggling with AI
Apple is still working on trying to catch up in terms of AI implementation. While competitors like Microsoft and Google moved quickly, Apple struggled with quality issues and delays. For instance, notification summaries sometimes misrepresented news reports. Plus, the highly anticipated “enhanced Siri” was pushed back multiple times.
The company has since seen some major internal shifts, including the retirement of its AI head, John Giannandrea, in December. Apple even turned to Google’s Gemini to help power its AI products starting earlier this year.
A final hearing to approve the settlement is scheduled for June 17. If you’re an iPhone owner in the US, keep an eye on your inbox—that “Siri tax” might just turn into a small refund.
