A fresh hardware leak has completely detailed the upcoming Google Pixel 11a specs long before its expected Spring 2027 arrival. The report suggests that Google‘s next affordable phone—internally codenamed “Formosan”—will ditch one of the most criticized cost-cutting decisions of the Pixel 10a. Instead of recycling older tech to save on production costs, the upcoming device will jump straight onto Google’s next-gen Tensor G6 chip and new modem.
The modem breakthrough and hardware changes
The leak comes from tech tipster Mystic Leaks. Perhaps the most important upgrade hidden inside the leaked document involves cellular connectivity. The Google Pixel 11a will feature MediaTek’s M90 modem, officially continuing Google’s shift away from the legacy Samsung Exynos modems that plagued older Tensor generations with signal drops and heavy battery drain. Before that, the main Google Pixel 11 series will debut Mediatek modems on Tensor chips.
The rest of the spec sheet shows a blend of high-end features and a couple of compromises. On the front, the phone will retain a 6.3-inch variable 60-120Hz AMOLED display. However, it gets a big upgrade to 2,250 nits of HDR brightness and 3,350 nits of peak brightness. On the inside, it keeps 8GB of RAM, uses the trusted Titan M3 security chip, and introduces a redesigned front-facing camera sensor codenamed “dokkaebi.”
To power it all, the physical minimum battery capacity dips slightly to 4,870mAh compared to the current Google Pixel 10a’s 5,000mAh. However, the improved efficiency of the newer Tensor G6 architecture should make up for this drop.
When the mid-range Pixel 11a debuts next year, it will launch in three regional SKUs across North America, Japan, and global markets. The device will sport four colors: Obsidian (black), Fog (silver), Olive (green), and Frost (purple).
Improved biometrics for the main Pixel 11 models, first Pixel 12a hint
The leak also dropped massive news regarding the mainline Pixel 11 flagships launching next month on August 12. Sources close to the production line confirm that Google has heavily overhauled its Face Unlock framework. The company is making the biometric scanning system significantly faster, safer, and more accurate in low-light environments.
Lastly, the leak looks even further down the firm’s timeline. The source claims Google has already registered its initial design concepts for the following generation. The future Pixel 12a is currently moving through early product cycles under the animal-themed codename “marmoset.”
