Apps like Google Photos are pretty straightforward. It’s used to backup your photos, view your photos, and make edits. However, a post on Reddit has revealed a perplexing Google Photos bug that is preventing Pixel users from making edits or sharing them. And unfortunately, there is no fix for it yet.
Google Photos bug prevents editing and sharing
According to the post on Reddit, this Google Photos bug seems to occur when users try to take a photo and edit it within the app. When the user tries to crop or edit it, the photo becomes unresponsive and users cannot share, edit, or delete the photo. The options are on the screen, but tapping them seems to do nothing.
The original post says the device they are using is the Google Pixel 11 Pro, but judging by the comments, it’s an issue that isn’t exclusive to the phone. Other users with other Pixel devices, like the Pixel 9a and Pixel 10 Pro XL, have chimed in as well, claiming similar problems. There’s also a separate Reddit post from a Pixel 9 Pro that has the same issue.
According to that post, “Essentially, as soon as you edit a photo, the apps have no visibility to the photos for a while, you can only share the photo by going to photo directly and clicking share, which makes it annoying when you try to select multiple photos on Instagram after you’ve edited them. Another issue is if you rotate or crop the photo in any way, clicking share on the photo doesn’t freaking work.”
What is the cause of the issue?
Google hasn’t publicly acknowledged the issue yet. However, some comments are suggesting it might have something to do with the latest August Play Service update. There was a comment made by the PixelCommunity account on Reddit. It suggests users clear the cache for the Photos app and also uninstall and reinstall. However, that doesn’t seem to work either.
Many users in the comments have expressed their frustration at the bug. Editing and sharing photos is more or less the core of Google Photos. So for a bug that prevents those basic functions from working, it is bizarre. Either way, hopefully Google catches wind of this and issues a fix for the problem ASAP.
