Pixel owners know exactly what I’m talking about. You get a shiny new OTA update for your Pixel, but it’s going to take a very, very long time to install like an obnoxiously long time to install. We’ve all been there: a sub-100MB update takes nearly an hour to finish installing. Well, Google might have solved that (FINALLY) on the Google Pixel 11 series.
I just got my review units in from Google, and I’m starting to set them up (I’m limited on what I can say right now), and there was an update waiting. Quite normal. It’s a 621MB update, and I jokingly said to Justin, our Games Editor, “this is going to take 3 hours to update, isn’t it?” Before he even replied, the update had downloaded and already rebooted to install. It was quite literally lightning quick.
It’s always been a headscratcher as to why these updates take so long to download and prepare to install before actually restarting the phone to install the update. Especially since it’s Google’s own OS on its own hardware. Now, it appears that is no longer an issue.
Pixel 11 might be mostly boring, but there are some great quality-of-life improvements.
The Pixel 11 series didn’t get a ton of changes this year, and we expect that to continue with other phones over the next 6 to 12 months. Largely due to the RAM crisis, where memory costs are shooting up 300% in just a month. But Google did make some nice changes to the Pixel 11.
One of those quality of life improvements is the added functionality for Quick Share. You can now easily share contact info, photos, videos,s and more by tapping your phonetoh yourfriend’s’ phone, starting with the Pixel 11. This will roll out to more devices in the coming months, including Samsung’s new foldables.
