One of the better uses of Android Auto is being able to see Google Maps on a much larger screen. However, it seems that there is a Google Maps glitch which is causing frustration among Android Automotive users.
Google Maps glitch frustrates Android Automotive users
According to a post on Reddit, there is a glitch affecting Polestar 2 Android Automotive users which causes Google Maps to continuously reroute.
The post reads, “Any PS2 users have this issue where the navigation keep rerouting for no reason continuously? This didn’t use to be an issue previously to the Gemini update. I’ve reset the system and also did a TCAM reset which didn’t seem to fix the issue. Frustrating since I have a trip coming up and now it’s a bit more painful to manage.”
Based on the comments, quite a number of them come from Polestar owners. But at the same time, it doesn’t seem like it’s exclusive to Polestar. There was a comment from a Honda owner who ran into the same issue.
Some also believe it could be a GPS error. But others have pointed out that this rerouting issue doesn’t happen when the car is parked. Plus, GPS works fine when Google Maps isn’t in use.
Fixing the problem
So, what do you do if you run into the same problem? According to one comment, it suggests clearing every cache and hitting every delete memory button users can find. After that, give Google Maps a restart and wait a few minutes and it should be fine. That being said, it’s worth noting that it is unclear if this method will work for everyone.
The one who posted it claimed it worked for them. There was another comment that also said clearing cache and app data resolved the issue for them. If you run into this issue, then maybe that could be a solution worth exploring, at least until Google issues a comment or pushes out a fix for it.
