Speed limits arrived in the Google Maps app back in 2019. Meanwhile, the live speedometer finally reached Android Auto long after a long wait, only a few months ago. However, the latter reportedly disappeared for some users. Well, Google has now confirmed that the disappearing speedometer in Android Auto is actually a bug, and not intentional or a rollback. Its team is currently investigating the matter.
Next, Google is rolling out a new Maps feature that shows both the current road’s speed limit and your live speed even when no destination is set. After reports of the feature disappearing for a few weeks, Google is now confirming that it’s actually rolling out.
“The ability to have the speedometer, speed limit, and traffic signals/stop signs showing without a destination set is still rolling out. Thus, not everyone will have this particular feature yet,” Google said in a Reddit thread.
Exact timeline is not clear
While that’s that, the exact timeline for the wider rollout is unclear at the moment. We will update when that happens. When it arrives, though, the feature seems definitely useful for drivers. While Google Maps is often used for navigation, shorter or familiar trips may not always require a destination. In that context, it makes this update helpful to still have the speed limit and speedometer visible.
