Google did something very odd. You now have half as much time as you had before to save your trashed pictures from being lost forever, thanks to Google’s latest change to Photos.
You now have “only” 30 days to recover your Google Photos
In other words, Google halved the time you have to rescue your trashed pictures in Google Photos. The company pushed that from 60 days to 30 days. After 30 days have passed, your deleted photos will be gone forever.
This is not a total surprise, though. Android Authority spotted last month that Google plans to do this. A couple of days ago, Google updated its Photos support docs to reference this change. Well, now the change is visible to Android users.
This is not a huge problem, not at all. However, the 60-day grace period gave you plenty of time to change your mind. 30 days is still a lot of time to recover deleted photos, but it’s half the time you had before.
A lot of people use Google Photos these days. Entrusting a company and its app with all your pictures and videos, which basically collect your memories, is a big thing. So any change of this type is important to note.

Google Photos app is so popular that it has been downloaded over 10 billion times from the Google Play Store. We don’t know how many users are actively using the app now, but it’s a lot.
It also helps that Google ships this app not only on its Pixel smartphones, but on a ton of Android phones from other OEMs. A bunch of people surely use it because it’s pre-installed, not on purpose.
Google Photos has been around for a long time, though, and quite a few users, even the non-tech-savvy ones, are familiar with the application. Letting it back up your memories also makes switching phones a breeze.
