If you have used Google Gemini on Android lately, you know the interface is functional but a bit quiet. Aside from the text appearing on the screen or a small pulsing logo, there isn’t much to look at while the AI “thinks.” However, that is about to change. Recent leaks suggest that Google is preparing a major visual overhaul—dubbed Gemini UX 2.0—that aims to make the app feel a lot more alive.
Google Gemini UX 2.0 to bring reactive gradient animations, UI redesign
The standout feature of this redesign is the introduction of dynamic, animated backgrounds. As Android Authority reports, Gemini will soon display flowing gradient animations that react in real-time while you type or wait for a response. Instead of a flat, motionless page, the background will likely cycle through Google’s signature colors.
This update seeks to tweak the feeling of “responsiveness” through visual feedback. The new motion to the background will make the interaction feel less like a search query and more like a conversation. The new UI also features brighter colors and more minimalist icons, part of a broader effort to declutter the experience.
Interestingly, the “Answer Now” button—a feature that lets you skip the deep-thinking phase for a quick result—is also getting a new home. In the leaked versions, this button sits more prominently above the prompt box.
When will we see this new UI?
While Google hasn’t officially flipped the switch yet, the timing of these leaks is hard to ignore. The Google I/O developer conference is just a few weeks away—scheduled for May 19 and 20. So, many expect this redesign to be a headline announcement.
We might also see these visual changes alongside broader updates to the Workspace app logos. We could even get the first official look at Android 17 during the conference.
