Recently, Google announced the ‘next big thing’ in mobile AI: Gemini Intelligence. It brings impressive features like Gboard’s “Rambler” voice-to-text and AI-generated widgets. A recent report claimed that the platform will officially debut on Samsung’s upcoming foldables in July—even before Pixels. That said, Google has published the official requirements for Gemini Intelligence, and they are apparently so demanding that even expensive recent flagship devices could be left off the compatibility list.
Gemini Intelligence: The list of supported devices could be shorter than expected
The most significant hurdle isn’t just processing power but the specific version of Google’s on-device AI model. As highlighted by AssembleDebug on X/Twitter, Gemini Intelligence support requires Gemini Nano v3. This one is present in newer devices like the Pixel 10 and Galaxy S26 series. However, models such as Pixel 9 series, Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Xiaomi Mi 17 series are currently using Nano v2.
This means that, unless Google finds a way to update these models via software, some of the most anticipated features—such as cross-app automation and “Create my Widget”—might remain out of reach for millions of current users.
The table below lists the devices (current and upcoming) compatible with Gemini Nano v2 and v3 (via 9to5Google). This way you can have a better idea of whether your handset will receive the most advanced mobile AI.
| Manufacturer | Gemini Nano v3 (Compatible) | Gemini Nano v2 (Limited Support) |
| Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold | Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9 Pro Fold | |
| Samsung | Galaxy S26 Series, Z Fold 8, Z Flip 8 | Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z TriFold |
| OnePlus / OPPO | OnePlus 15, Find X9, Find X9 Pro | OnePlus 13, Find N5, Find X8 Series |
| Honor | Honor Magic 8 Pro | Magic V5, Magic 7, Magic 7 Pro |
| Other Brands | iQOO 15, vivo X300 Pro, realme GT 7T | Xiaomi 15/17 Series, POCO F8 Ultra |
The 12GB RAM rule
Beyond the chip architecture, memory has become a critical bottleneck. Google states that Gemini Intelligence requires at least 12GB of RAM. This requirement adds an interesting layer to recent rumors regarding the upcoming Pixel 11. While some leaks suggested the base Pixel 11 might drop to 8GB of RAM to manage costs, these AI specs suggest that such a move could prevent Google’s own base model from running its premiere AI features.
