Adding a realistic face to conversational AI is quickly becoming Google’s primary pitch for business automation. Last week, the company announced Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking. Now, Google officially launched Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar in general availability for Gemini Enterprise. First previewed at Google Cloud Next 2026, the feature pairs real-time video generation directly with speech models across websites, mobile apps, and interactive kiosks.
The rapid rollout follows another release earlier in the week, where Google debuted its audio-focused Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS and Flash-Lite TTS models.
Precise lip-syncing, 97 languages, and ADK integration
The Live Avatar engine processes visual and voice inputs simultaneously. This allows interactive avatars to see user camera feeds or screen shares and have natural conversations. The system can accurately lip-sync and smoothly take turns speaking in 97 languages and can automatically detect speech changes without losing video alignment. Developers can also use the Google Agent Development Kit (ADK) to define memory and stream audio directly without needing old-school speech-to-text setups.
Asynchronous tool calling allows the avatar to perform backend tasks in the background while the conversation continues. In real-world setups—like an insurance claims agent demo—a user can show damage on camera while the AI checks policies, verifies rules, and creates an adjuster packet in the background without pausing the video call.
Watermarking, custom branding, and market pressure
Enterprises can choose pre-built avatars or create custom personas using a single reference photo and audio sample. Custom creation requires strict allowlist approval, though. To maintain transparency, Google weaves invisible SynthID watermarks directly into all AI-generated audio and video streams. The model is now active across US and EU endpoints with enterprise compliance guarantees.
This product push comes at a critical moment for Google. Company shares dropped roughly 20% over recent months following reported delays with Gemini 3.5 Pro, while rivals OpenAI and Anthropic launched newer competing models. However, with Google DeepMind chief Koray Kavukcuoglu teasing that flagship Gemini 4 is also nearing release, Google is aggressively expanding its enterprise AI lineup.
