As highlighted by tech leaker Tarun Vats, the Android 17-based One UI 9.0 preview for the Galaxy S26 lineup is Samsung’s only active beta program right now. This makes S26 testers the primary group affected by this pause.
Why the pause happened and what it means for device security
Google Play System updates typically roll out automatically in the background. They deliver modular Android security enhancements, bug fixes, and feature updates independently from full firmware upgrades. While hitting the pause button on security-related patches might sound concerning at first glance, Samsung insists there is no reason for users to worry.
According to Samsung, they already integrated all essential security fixes from Google directly into One UI 9.0 beta firmware builds. That means your device remains fully protected against known security vulnerabilities while participating in the preview program.

Samsung noted that Google Play System updates will resume “at the appropriate time.” That restart could happen during a future One UI 9 beta release or when the official stable version hits public devices.

Alongside the core OS rollout, Samsung is actively updating its first-party apps and Good Lock modules to support the new One UI 9.0 design language.
