If you’re worried about whether or not the iPhone Ultra has been delayed, you can rest easy. According to the latest rumors on Weibo, it seems that production could be back on track. The report claims that mass production of Apple’s foldable is on track to launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro.
Apple’s foldable production on track to launch alongside iPhone 18 Pro
For those unfamiliar, there was a rumor the other day that the foldable iPhone could be delayed indefinitely. The report claimed that Apple had apparently achieved their goal of a seamless display. However, the issue was the hinge, which apparently did not meet Apple’s quality standards. But now, a new report says that mass production of the foldable is set for July, meaning it will launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro.Â
Why is the hinge so important? If you recall, Samsung ran into hinge issues with its first-ever foldable back in the day. It allowed dust and debris to get caught, which meant when users tried to close the phone shut, it would damage the display. Over the years, Samsung and other companies have made vast improvements to the hinge design.
We’re not sure why Apple is running into these issues, especially given how late they are to the party, meaning that they had plenty of time to learn from its competitors. However, maybe Apple came up with their own unique design that’s slightly more complicated. But that’s just our speculation.
Either way, assuming the report is right, we should be able to see the phone launch this September. However, even then you might not be able to get it right away. Earlier reports claim that the phone will be announced in September, but availability could be in December.
What can we expect this September?
This September will be Apple’s iPhone event. Along with the iPhone Ultra, the company will launch its flagship iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models. If you haven’t been following the rumors, Apple will skip the base iPhone 18 for 2026. Instead, the company could push it to early 2027 where it will launch together with the iPhone 18e. This means that this year’s launch will be all flagship.
Leaked designs have suggested Apple won’t change too much in the iPhone 18 Pro series. The company could make Dynamic Island smaller, but other than that, it won’t look too different from last year’s models.
