Elon Musk is the richest person in the world, with a net worth of over half a trillion dollars. Yes, you read that right. But it seems being the richest isn’t enough, Musk also wants to be known as a hero. During the ongoing trial between Elon Musk and Sam Altman, he says all he wants to do is save humanity.
Elon Musk wants to save humanity
Most of us are probably familiar with some of Musk’s ventures. This includes Tesla, SpaceX, and for a moment in time, OpenAI. His companies have made Musk a very rich man, but that’s not how he sees it. According to Elon Musk, he says his business ventures are to save humanity.
For instance, he framed SpaceX as “Life insurance for life as we know it.” He also said the reason he created Tesla was because he felt that continued reliance on fossil fuels would be “pretty bad for the environment and humanity as a whole.”
As for his stance on AI, Musk said that he had been worried about the tech since his college days. He believed that it would be a doubled-edged sword. One that could either make everyone rich, or kill us all. That was the reason he founded OpenAI, and why he now has beef with the direction that Altman is taking the company.
He also called Altman a “thief,” saying, “It’s very simple: it’s not okay to steal a charity. That’s my view and moreover if the defendants are found not guilty, this case will become caselaw. It will become precedent and give precedent to looting every charity in America. If the verdict comes out that makes it okay to loot a charity, the entire foundation of charitable giving in America will be destroyed.”
Is Elon Musk truly trying to save us all?
We can’t say with certainty if Musk’s intentions are to save humanity. However, we cannot deny that his ventures, for the most part, seem to be about sustainability. While it might be decades before we actually begin the process of migrating to other planets, it all has to start somewhere, and SpaceX is playing its role.
Also, Musk definitely helped boost the appeal of EVs with Tesla. EVs aren’t exactly new, and we’ve seen other carmakers attempt it in the past. However, Musk made Tesla cars “cool,” which made more people want to own them. In fact, recent reports have suggested that due to the rising number of EVs, the demand for oil has decreased.
For now, the figures are marginal. However, it is expected that by 2040, the supply of oil could be higher than demand.
