Taking a screenshot of a YouTube video can be a real hassle. When you pause the video, the player controls, progress bar, and channel watermark cover up a major portion of the frame. Alternatively, taking a screenshot while the video is playing is not so easy, as there’s a high chance you’ll miss the moment you want to capture. Well, both of these might be a thing of the past. Google’s Chrome and Brave browsers gained a clean way to save video screenshots.
Chrome and Brave now let you save video screenshots with one click
Folks at Piunikaweb report they came across a neat new update while watching a video. Apparently, a blue tooltip popped up beside the address bar in Chrome that had the text, “Save an image of the video frame from Media Controls.” Clicking the Media Controls icon in the toolbar opened the media playback hub, and there was a new capture button sitting right next to the picture-in-picture toggle.
Tapping the icon reportedly downloaded a full-resolution still of the frame without all the player controls, progress bar, and other elements. The report mentions they’ve spotted the feature in the Chrome 155 build. What’s more, the feature is now available in the Brave browser.
Not available in every browser
Brave has posted about this feature in a post on X. It also has a video guide walking users through the feature. And it’s the same as it is in Chrome. There’s a new capture button here as well. Unfortunately, it’s not present in the Microsoft Edge browser. Though Edge shares a Chromium build, the video capture tool was reportedly not present in its media flyout.
This suggests the feature isn’t automatically enabled in every browser using the same web engine. Microsoft uses its own media menu, while Brave follows Chromium’s features.
