At Apple’s ‘Welcome Home’ event today in New York City, the company made a big splash in the smart home market. It launched its HomeView smart home hub and the Apple Home Collection. This new lineup of smart home accessories was built in collaboration with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. These products include smart cameras, thermostats, and a door lock.
Apple says that this collection builds on the “thousands of Works with Apple Home and Matter accessories that are already available, and offers customers a new array of recommended products to better understand what’s happening inside and outside your home.”
While there are already a ton of Works with Apple Home and Matter-compatible accessories on the market, “the Apple Home Collection stands out as a way to feature a clean, minimal aesthetic and premium materials with every detail considered, from how they mount and adjust to how they look and feel alongside Apple products throughout the home.”
These products will appear like first-party Apple devices on your iPhone and iPad for setup. A pop-up alerts you to the product and includes a blue button to set it up, making it easy to get these products up and running in your home.
LG brings four cameras to Apple’s Home Collection
To start, LG offers four cameras in the Apple Home Collection. These include a video doorbell, Floodlight Cam, Outdoor Cam, and Indoor Cam. LG also offers a Smart Deadbolt Lock that uses Ultra Wideband technology to detect when the user approaches the door.
Finally, there are two new smart thermostats, one from LG and one from Schneider Electric, so that users can choose the product that best fits their home. They can use on-device intelligence from iPhone; Adaptive Temperature in the Home app automatically adjusts the thermostats based on whether someone is at home, winding down at night, or away, ensuring the home is always at the right temperature without any manual scheduling.
These products will be available starting in December.
