Just the other day, Apple confirmed that its current CEO Tim Cook would be stepping down. Taking his place is John Ternus, Apple’s current SVP of hardware engineering. While he hasn’t officially assumed the role yet, he’s already pretty optimistic, going as far as saying Apple is about to change the world.
Ternus: Apple is about to change the world
In a recent report from Bloomberg, it quotes Ternus as telling employees that he’s excited to step into his role as CEO. He also said that Apple is about to change the world “once again.” He also hinted at Apple’s plans for the future, which, to no one’s surprise, involve AI.
According to Ternus, “AI is going to create almost unlimited potential. We’re going to be able to keep unlocking possibilities that are going to create entirely new opportunities for our products and services, and I’m so excited about what that’s going to mean for our users.”
That being said, we should take his comments with a pinch of salt. It’s not that Ternus can’t run Apple, but rather, his comments are what you might expect to hear from an incoming CEO that reassures employees, customers, and most importantly, Apple’s investors.
He also adds, “We’re going to keep focusing on design, because design is core to what we do at Apple. Apple’s brought truly incredible design to more people than any company in history. Who we are as a company won’t change. Our mission won’t change.”
What will become of Tim Cook?
That being said, Cook isn’t being written out of the picture entirely. For starters, Cook will continue being CEO throughout the summer. Ternus is only expected to step in on September 1. But even then, Cook will still have his role to play. He will become the executive chairman at Apple.
He also reassured fans that he isn’t stepping down due to health reasons. “I am healthy. My energy is high, and I plan to be in this new role for a long time. I’ll be here to support John in any way he needs and in any way I can. I’ll be here to offer my knowledge and experience and be a sounding board anytime I’m called upon. Apple will be my top priority. It’s who I am at my core, and I can’t imagine it any other way.”
