Siri has always been pretty awful. From the moment it was announced on-stage at the iPhone 4S event in October 2011, it was very underwhelming. And the crazy thing is, Apple had a huge head start over Google, Amazon, and even Microsoft with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Cortana coming out much later.
Now, it seems that Apple is preparing to give Siri the overhaul it desperately needed. At WWDC, which kicks off on June 8, Apple is going to announce a full-blown overhaul that will finally bring Siri into the AI era.
This comes from a new report out of Bloomberg, which says iOS 27 is going to be a major rework for Siri. Including a redesigned interface, conversational AI that actually remembers what you said, and deeper integration with apps on your iPhone. Basically, it’s going to be what Gemini is on Android. Which isn’t a surprise since Apple has partnered with Google to bring Gemini deeper into iOS.
The biggest change here is going to be how you talk to Siri. Right now, we mostly use Siri for the weather or to set a timer because that’s really all it can do accurately. But the new Siri will be able to support ongoing conversations, so you can ask follow-up questions without Siri getting confused.
Siri will live in the Dynamic Island
Another cue from Gemini is that Siri isn’t going to take over your entire screen like it currently does. Instead, it will act as a pop-up from the Dynamic Island on new iPhones. The report also indicates that Siri could get its own standalone app, with chat history. Making it feel much more like the Gemini or ChatGPT app on your phone.
Siri will also be able to pull context from your messages, emails, and what’s on your screen. Meaning you’ll be able to ask Siri details from a text thread of a group of emails, and it can provide you with an accurate answer.
