Apple finally took the covers off iOS 27 at WWDC 2026 earlier this month. This finally introduces the revamped Siri experience. It brings the ability to have natural language conversations, new visual intelligence, much smarter cross-app actions, and so much more. Besides these, iOS 27 also brings a brand new Siri mode to the native Camera app on the iPhone. This joins the default options like Photo, Video, Portrait, and others.
iOS 27 adds a new ‘Siri’ mode to the iPhone Camera app
After introducing the new iPhone Camera app design last year, Apple is bringing this new camera mode. The Siri mode adds the visual intelligence features, previously tied to the Camera Control button on the iPhone, directly to the native Camera app. With this, users can now simply point their iPhone at something and get information about it, and also some relevant actions. For instance, pointing at a restaurant pulls up its Maps listing, reviews, hours of operation, and more.
Additionally, users can also ask about a plant to get care and watering info, split a bill by scanning the receipt, image search for related photos, translate text, and also view nutritional info for the food on your plate. Additionally, one can even capture an event flyer to add the event to their Calendar app, which can be quite handy when on the go.
Easier access
For reference, the visual intelligence previously lived in a separate mode outside the Camera app. That is now finally changing for good with iOS 27. Siri’s intelligence is now built into the default Camera app as a swipeable mode. This certainly makes things easier from an accessibility point of view. In fact, it even makes sense to have this in the default Camera app instead of being tucked away elsewhere.
The new iOS version is currently in the beta stage. The stable version will be out later this year, possibly in September when new iPhones debut.
