More details have just surfaced regarding the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra’s camera setup. We’ve seen some conflicting reports thus far. A rumor back in late August claimed that Samsung will use a new telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom on the Galaxy S27 Ultra, but Ice Universe recently denied that.
The Galaxy S27 Ultra could end up sporting the exact same 5x optical zoom telephoto camera as its predecessor
The tipster said that Samsung will use the exact same 5x optical zoom telephoto camera that it used in the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Needless to say, that’s a bit disappointing, as that’s not the most modern camera sensor, amongst other things.
Well, another tipster, Roland Quandt aka OnLeaks, decided to throw his two cents into the conversation. He says that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will use a 50-meagpixel 5x optical zoom telephoto camera with a Sony sensor on the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
So he seemingly confirms what Ice Universe said, though Roland Quandt did not say that the exact same sensor will be in use. It sure seems like it at this point. He did note that Sony’s sensor will be utilized. Just as a reminder, Samsung is using a Sony sensor in the Galaxy S26 Ultra as well, for that camera. The Sony IMX854 is used.
The ultrawide camera could remain unchanged as well
Quandt also added that the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s ultrawide camera will be a 50-megapixel unit, matching the Galaxy S26 Ultra. He also noted that a 16-megapixel selfie camera with autofocus will be included as well. That will be an upgrade from the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s 12-megapixel selfie camera, hopefully.
As a reminder, the Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to use Samsung’s recently unveiled M16 OLED panel. The phone will be fueled by Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship processor, allegedly called the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. There’s still a chance we’ll get an Exynos 2700 model as well, though.
The Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to arrive in Q1 2027, alongside the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, and Galaxy S27 Pro.
