Variety is the spice of life they say and what better way to bring some variety to your phone than with a large collection of colors? Android 17 will reportedly be doing just that, as a new leak shows the addition of a picker for choosing custom colors. As it stands right now, with the application of the Material You design, Android allows you to pick colors for the home screen and other OS elements, but it’s a bit limiting.
Android 17 is apparently going to change all that. The picker for custom colors isn’t the only new thing coming to Android 17, either. This particular build will also introduce additional blurring to the UI design. There is already some blur that’s visible within the UI now, but it looks to be more prominent with this future Android release. This isn’t the first time Android 17’s new blur effects have been spotted. Back in January it was discovered that the UI would be getting more of this effect.
Android 17 will let you have more control over custom colors with the new picker
The additional blur effects are certainly cool and they’d be even better if you can adjust the blur. It doesn’t look like that will be an option, unfortunately. However, the custom color picker is a big step up for those who like to customize their phone style.
The way it looks like things are going to work based on the images shared by MysticLeaks (via 9To5Google), is that there’s a new slider that will allow you to pick the accent color from a wider pool of shades. The way it works now is a bit different. You can pick from a series of colors but you only choose from a preset list of options. It looks good enough and usually matches the colors from your wallpaper. This new picker, however, will give the user a lot more control over what color to use.
Android 17 will be launching later this year, and it’s likely that Google will show off more of it during Google I/O next week.
