Google software engineers are working double time on the Android testing track right now. Even though testing for the newer QPR3 branch kicked off last week, the company just pushed out Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7 for eligible Google Pixel smartphones and tablets.
Carrying build number CP41.260831.016, this update focuses squarely on bug squashing rather than adding shiny new user interface features. Google prioritized tackling two specific, frustrating bugs that beta testers submitted through the issue tracker over the past few weeks.
Fixing Flip to Shh battery drain and system downloads
The biggest fix targets an annoying background power bug tied to the popular Flip to Shh gesture feature. On previous beta builds, placing a Pixel phone face down failed to let the processor enter a deep sleep state when the feature engaged. That glitch kept background hardware active indefinitely, causing excessive battery drain while devices sat completely idle on desks or nightstands.
The second core fix addresses a system-level file transfer error. Many users noticed that HTTPS file downloads initiated through Android’s built-in DownloadManager failed instantly without completing. Beta 7 patch code resolves that pipeline error, restoring normal file downloads across web browsers and third-party utility applications.
Sideloading images and reporting new bugs
This update covers a wide range of Google devices. System images are available for everything from older generations like the Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, and Pixel 8 lineups to newer hardware like the Pixel 9 series, Pixel 10 family, and recent Pixel 11 models. The Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold devices are also on the list.
Pixel owners enrolled in the beta track can grab the update over the air. Still, manually sideloading the software image remains the fastest path to install the patch immediately. Google urges testers to report any newly discovered glitches through the built-in Android Beta Feedback app or post details inside the official Android Beta Reddit community to help smooth out code before final public deployment.
