Android 17 QPR2 beta 7.1 is beginning to roll out to owners of compatible Pixel devices, and this includes anyone with a Pixel 6a or newer smartphone, which is essentially any device in the Pixel lineup for the past few years.
This will be a relatively small update with few changes in the way of features, at least on the surface, as Google’s beta software changelog shows that there’s only a single bug fix with this new software. With that being the case, any other changes that could be there are likely going to be smaller tweaks that fly under the radar. That being said, the one issue that has been fixed is an important one according to Google’s Mishaal Rahman.
Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7.1 includes an important fix
With the update beginning to roll out there are two things compatible Pixel owners will want to know about. One is the new fix. According to Google’s Mishaal Rahman, the fix that comes in with this update is for “Severe Ul stuttering and multi-second freezes under memory pressure from heavy page-reclaim thrashing and major page faults.”
If you were someone experiencing that issue before, then updating to this beta build will fix it. As Droid Life points out though, there is potentially a new bug that comes along with this build. But only for Pixel 11 Pro Fold owners. Pixel 11 Pro Fold owners may experience an issue with Face Unlock, and have to re-enroll their face in the unlock method for it work again. It isn’t stated that this is a guaranteed bug that users will encounter. To find this update available, you will need to be enrolled in the Android Beta Program and have a compatible device.
If you aren’t already enrolled, then signing up to be a part of the Android Beta Program may force it to show up.
