Messaging apps are supposed to keep your conversations organized. However, an alarming new glitch in Google Messages is doing the exact opposite. The real problem isn’t just seeing old text pop up on your screen while typing. In fact, the app actually delivers those stray messages to the recipient.
The real-world examples shared by users sound painful. One Pixel 9a owner trying to confirm a routine vet appointment accidentally sent an old text detailing a private family matter. Another user reported that an intimate message from a past relationship somehow attached itself to a text sent to their mother. Other reports mention sensitive work notes, login verification codes and personal chats ending up in the wrong inboxes.
Troubleshooting fails to fix the glitch
What’s especially maddening about the bug is that regular software fixes don’t seem to work. Users report that clearing the app’s cache, restarting their phones, toggling RCS settings off and on, and reinstalling Google Messages fail to permanently resolve the issue.
A few community members claim that performing a full factory reset without restoring past message backups stopped the problem. However, doing so risks permanently wiping your data if you don’t have a clean backup ready.
