It’s always interesting to hear what competitors have to say about each other. Even though Tom’s Guide didn’t manage to get a lot out of Sameer Samat, President of the Android Ecosystem at Google, something interesting did come up.
The boss of Android was interviewed by the publication as part of Google’s Googlebook push. The conversation did include a bit of Apple, though, as Samat was asked about the iPhone Duo. His answers were quite generic, but one thing did stand out.
“Android is usually where you see the future first”
Sameer Samat did say that “Android is usually where you see the future first,” which is true. Apple is usually quite late to the party, as iOS has been picking up features Android has had for years. Though, granted, Android borrowed some from Apple as well.
He also said that “it’s wonderful to see more people realizing after so long that the foldable space is the place to be,” after being asked about Apple’s foldable phone launch.
What’s also interesting is that Sameer Samat is using the Galaxy Z Fold 8 as his phone of choice. He said: “The Fold 8 is an amazing device,” while adding: “It helps me get so much work done. I actually find myself starting productivity quite often on that device, and then moving to my laptop.”
Android boss is glad to see Apple join in on the foldable phone fun
He seems to be truly glad to see Apple finally adopting the form factor. Samat added: “Seriously, I’ve been waiting since the first Galaxy Z Fold for Apple to enter the arena (tried the Fold 5 and Fold 6, but just couldn’t do Android because I’m locked into the rest of Apple’s ecosystem).”
The Android boss also believes that the iPhone Duo will have a positive effect on Android foldables as well. Why? Well, it will increase interest in the foldable smartphone category as a whole.
As a reminder, the iPhone Duo was announced earlier this month, but it will not go on sale until next month (October).
