Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 sales actually jumped 10% following the iPhone Duo launch. The company has seen great success with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 thus far, both during pre-orders and after the device was made available for purchase.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 sales in the company’s homeland jumped by 10% following the iPhone Duo launch
A new report from Korea, however, claims that sales in the company’s homeland jumped by 10% following the arrival of Apple’s first foldable. This kind of signals that some of the customers who were waiting for the iPhone Duo were not impressed and decided to get the Galaxy Z Fold 8 after all.
Just to be clear, the 10% sales increase is compared to the week before. Now, the analysts believe that the iPhone Duo’s higher price point, plus the added thickness and weight, influenced customers quite a bit.
As a reminder, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is 9.7mm thick when folded, while the iPhone Duo is 11.3mm thick. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is also a lot lighter at 201 grams, compared to 254 grams of the iPhone Duo.
The price difference played a role here, and possibly the weight and thickness of Apple’s first foldable
What also made a huge difference is the price point. The cheapest price point for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is actually in Korea, Samsung’s homeland. The device starts at 2.28 million won ($1,550), while the iPhone Duo will cost 3.29 million won ($2,390) when it becomes available. That’s a massive difference.
The sheer fact that the iPhone Duo won’t be released until next month possibly also played a role in the decision. The iPhone Duo will not arrive in South Korea until October 16. It’s actually launching globally next month, not before.
We’re looking forward to checking out the Apple iPhone Duo and taking a closer look at the phone. In the meantime, you can check out our Galaxy Z Fold 8 review, which has been up for a while.
