Whenever Apple launches a new iPhone, it sells out quite fast. This is determined by Apple’s order page where we start seeing shipping dates slip the longer we wait. However, it seems that the iPhone 18 Pro series might be facing weak demand, or at least isn’t selling as fast as what we’re used to.
Is the iPhone 18 Pro facing weak demand?
According to a report from AppleInsider, it looks like the iPhone 18 Pro series is off to a slow start. Pre-orders for the new phones opened at 8AM ET, but as the publication noted, even 30 minutes after that, none of the models showed any sign of shipping delays. All of them were still listed for delivery on Friday, September 18.
However, things eventually picked up. The 256GB iPhone 18 Pro Max in burgundy was the first to sell out. It slipped from September 18 to September 29 to October 6. Next was the 256GB models for the glacier and silver finishes, then black. Unsurprisingly, the 1TB and 2TB did not show any sign of shipping delays.
Worth noting is that this is for the US market. Presumably demand in other markets looks a bit different.
What’s going on?
So, what’s going on? Is the iPhone 18 Pro series facing weak demand? That’s a possibility, but the question is why? For starters, pricing could be a reason why. Apple raised the price of its iPhones by $100 across the board. That will definitely have an impact on customers looking to upgrade.
Another possibility is that more customers are waiting and willing to pay for the iPhone Duo, which is expected to go on sale at a later date. Given that this is the first truly redesigned iPhone in forever, we wouldn’t be surprised if more customers are putting off buying the iPhone 18 Pro series in favor of the foldable.
There is another potential scenario, which is that people weren’t really sold on the iPhone 18 Pro. Yes, it is an upgrade in performance and cameras, but overall it’s not the most exciting upgrade we’ve seen. Plus, there are rumors that next year’s 20th anniversary iPhone could bring about massive change. So some customers could be holding off on upgrading this year in favor of next year’s model.
Either way, we can’t be 100% sure what the reasoning behind the slowdown is. We’ll probably have to wait for Apple’s next financial report to get a better idea.
