Samsung has just confirmed that the recently flagged Galaxy Z Fold 8 display problem is… not a problem. I’m talking about the report highlighting the fact that the corners on the phone’s main display are “sinking.”
A user online raised a question regarding this “problem.” He claimed that, when he pushes on the corners of the phone’s main display, they sink below the frame level as if there’s nothing below them.
I tried doing the same on my Galaxy Z Fold 8 unit and quickly realized that the same is happening. As I said in the original article regarding this issue, I thought that was a feature, not a problem. It relieves the pressure on the display so it won’t shatter if it faces a drop or something.

Well, Samsung just confirmed what I initially thought. Samsung representatives said that both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra main displays feature a cushioning structure applied to the outer corners. They’re there to improve durability and protection. As a result, when you apply pressure to the corners, they do sink very slightly.
As I suspected, this was made to reduce the impact of interference or pressure between the display’s internal components. This is an intentional design choice, rather than a manufacturing defect.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra have been available for purchase for a while now. Users are still discovering new things about the phones, and this was the latest one. Someone apparently accidentally pressed on a corner and realized something’s going on.
