GTA 6 pre-orders have experienced a huge boost after last week Friday, according to data from Sensor Tower, who has been tracking pre-order data for the upcoming game. GTA 6 went up for pre-order on June 25, 2026, following an official announcement about the pre-order date across all of Rockstar’s main social channels.
Since then, fans of the franchise have been waiting with baited breath for the next GTA 6 trailer. Instead what they got was the extended look that went live on Friday, August 27, which showed roughly 27+ minutes of gameplay footage, including new features and systems, and several cinematic shots of the game world. This extended look was a huge factor in pre-orders for the game increasing by a massive amount.
GTA 6 pre-orders went up by 436% in one day after the Netflix extended look
According to data from Sensor Tower, the extended gameplay footage was so enticing to players that it pushed pre-orders up by a total of 436% within a single day. With that bump, and paired with previous pre-orders, as well as a continued increase over the subsequent few days, GTA 6 is now sitting at around 4.86 million units sold.
In addition to total units, the data shows that the majority of pre-orders are from PlayStation players, which make up about 77% of the pre-order numbers, compared to the number of pre-orders on Xbox. Notebookcheck reports that after the initial 436% increase, further increases in the pre-orders over the following couple of days pushed that number up to a total of 572%. Sensor Tower’s tracker for GTA 6 is updated weekly, and was last updated on August 31.
Even with this huge push after the extended look, GTA 6 pre-orders are still considerably below the pre-order numbers for GTA 5. Rockstar’s last game in the franchise totaled at over 7 million pre-orders by the time the game had launched in 2013. That being said, Rockstar still has nearly three more months to meet or exceed that number with GTA 6.
