Cook took over the top spot in August 2011 following Steve Jobs. He guided the company through iconic product launches like the Apple Watch and AirPods while expanding the iPhone, iPad, and Mac lineups. Cook is leaving Apple Park behind, but he’s not stepping away from the day-to-day operations. He is transitioning into the role of Executive Chairman, where he will focus on working with governments around the world, including key discussions in the US and China.
“Culture triumphs over everything”
In his final Tim Cook Apple CEO memo, the outgoing leader made it clear that leaving the role comes with mixed emotions. “I am stepping away from a role that I have loved deeply,” Cook wrote, adding, “I will miss this work in ways I can only begin to imagine, even as I remain completely at peace with my decision.”
Rather than focusing solely on financial achievements, Cook highlighted the company’s internal ethos, telling staff that “culture triumphs over everything.” He reminded employees of their shared responsibility to leave the world better than they found it, noting that their collective passion is what allowed the team to leave their “dent in the universe,” directly citing the famous words of Steve Jobs (via Bloomberg).

A central focus of Cook’s letter was placing full trust in John Ternus as he takes over the company’s highest seat.
