Gboard on the Pixel 11 has some new tools available to users, specifically in the form of AI-assisted writing tools that can help you complete your messages. Recommendations aren’t new but they have never been powered by Gemini before with AI giving you suggestions, at least not as a native Gboard feature.
So far, this is only available on the Pixel 11 series devices like the Pixel 11 Pro and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Google has not confirmed whether or not it will expand the feature to older devices. The new AI-powered writing tools will give you personalized suggestions that you can then use for your responses. These can be enabled or disabled as well. Additionally, if personalized suggestions are enabled, then Gboard can suggest quick responses based on the context of other stuff on the screen. It also factors in your writing style to help come up with these responses.
The personalized suggestions in Gboard for Pixel 11 are not available in all apps
If you have a Pixel 11 or are waiting on one to arrive, you’ll will notice that the personalized suggestions aren’t available for all messaging apps. They’re available in Google Messages, but available in Discord. They will also be unavailable in Telegram, and Messenger.
You can use these in Line and Google Chat as well. 9To5Google notes that Google confirms the personalized suggestions will pop up in “other chat apps,” but it isn’t mentioned by Google what those other chat apps are. There are also a limited number of supported languages. The languages that are supported are English, Spanish, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese.
This should be available for all Pixel 11 users out of the box, and an update shouldn’t be needed. To find these new suggestions, you’ll need to tap on the button that looks like a pen or pencil with the Gemini stars around it, then tap on the button in the top right corner of the writing tools window that pops up.
