This year, the hype for the new iPhones seems to be all about the foldable. There hasn’t been as much hype around the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max; this could be because very little is changing. Sure, the iPhone 18 Pro Max might get a variable aperture, but what else is changing? Apparently not much.
Best Buy is apparently selling OtterBox cases for the iPhone 17 Pro that also claim to fit the iPhone 18 Pro, showing that the hardware is changing so little that last year’s cases will fit this year’s phones. That’s not a huge surprise; Google has done this since the Pixel 9, actually.
Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the same thing will happen with the iPhone 18 Pro Max. This case is specifically for the smaller Pro. So iPhone 17 Pro Max cases might not fit the iPhone 18 Pro Max. We’ll have to wait and see on that one.
Apple is set to announce the iPhone 18 Pro the week of September 9
Rumors suggest Apple will announce the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and Ultra on September 9. Though I don’t think Apple will do that, because they generally announce the week after Labor Day. Apple has announced the week of Labor Day before, with the event on a Wednesday (which, if the September 9 date is correct, is a Wednesday), giving everyone a day to travel to Cupertino for the Apple event.
One thing to keep in mind is that the base iPhone 18 won’t be announced here. Instead, Apple is splitting up the iPhone launches starting this Fall. So the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2 will all be announced in the Spring. Instead of just the ‘e’ model being left alone in the Spring.
