With kids going back to school in just about a month, parents will be going through back-to-school safety lists to ensure that all the bases are covered before the season arrives. One of the more obvious things parents can do these days is have some sort of tracking device or app to alert them to their child’s location. Something like the new Pixel Tag would be a good example of a hardware tracker that could be used, while apps like iSharing offer a software solution that can be installed on multiple devices and without the need for additional hardware.
To help parents prepare for the upcoming back-to-school season, iSharing has put together a list of safety tips that it believes all parents should be aware of headed into this busy part of the year. One such tip is to tie two phone numbers to a song tune that your child might be familiar with. This tip is suggested because it’s easy for kids to forget a phone number, much like parents can forget their kids’ numbers (about 82% of parents according to iSharing’s data).
So the idea is to attach each number to a tune that they know and add in some hand gestures. Then have the child repeat everything instead of simply asking them if they remember what they were just shown. Asking them to repeat it shows you that they know.
Improve back-to-school safety by NOT sharing a first-day photo of your child
According to iSharing’s data, about 81% of parents across the US and the UK continue to post first-day back-to-school photos of their kids along with a full name, where they go to school, and the name of their teacher, which is a risk of exposure to strangers that follow them online.
Another tip iSharing mentions is to give your child a button to press. In other words, give them a button that shares their location with you so you know right away where they are in a dangerous situation. Again, something like the Pixel Tag or Moto Tag 2 and the corresponding app, or an app like iSharing, would be a solution.
Another tip is to make sure that your number is set as the emergency contact for your child in the event that you would need to be reached. iSharing also suggests that parents proactively check their child’s location even on a day where they may get to be more hands-off so you’re 100% sure they’re going where they’re supposed to.
