Samsung’s Galaxy Watch series has been around for several years now and the company is approaching its ninth iteration, with a lot of unknowns about the device including the shape, available sizes, colors, price, and of course, launch date. Although Samsung has accidentally confirmed its existence. Most of that is unlikely to become available knowledge until it gets closer to a reveal and a launch date, but a new rumor does claim to know the shape of the Galaxy Watch 9. Which suggests that Samsung is already set on an overall design of the watch series.
According to the rumor, the Galaxy Watch 9 will be unchanged in terms of shape. That means it’ll end up keeping the squircle watch case that Samsung introduced with the Galaxy Watch Ultra, which carried through on the Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 8 Classic.
The Galaxy Watch 9 shape will stay the same as the watch will have “no design change”
While the shape isn’t changing, it seems to be more than just the shape that will stay the same. According to @ya_sking12767 on X, the Galaxy Watch 9 will have “no design change.” So it isn’t just the shape that’s staying the same. The design as a whole could be staying the same. If that’s the case, then virtually every detail, at least visually, would be indistinguishable from the current watches.
This wouldn’t be the first time that Samsung has done this. Past models have had no change. The Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 7 for example, basically look identical. Save for different color options. So it’s safe to say that Samsung knows it doesn’t need to change up the design every single year.
The lack of design change also raises some other questions. Particularly whether the watch will be worth the upgrade if you’re already using a Galaxy Watch 8 or Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. Without design changes, there will probably need to be some significant under the hood improvements. Not to mention new features. At least if Samsung wants to hook people who already bought last year’s watch.
