Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has been announced, and there are a whole bunch of details about the game that Activision has confirmed with this morning’s reveal. In addition to the game’s first trailer, which you can watch below, Activision has also confirmed the game’s launch date, along with every platform where you’ll be able to play the game.
Players can expect a fully-fledged campaign alongside a multiplayer mode, with a return to the DMZ when the game releases later this year. Modern Warfare 4 will break away from the mold a bit with the story. While the Modern Warfare series reboot did make changes from the originals, many story beats and most of the characters returned. Many of the locations were the same.
Modern Warfare 4 will tell an all-new story that centers around a North Korean full-scale invasion of South Korea, featuring a completely new main protagonist called Private Park, a young South Korean soldier “facing live combat for the first time alongside his squad.”
Call of Duty: Modern 4 announced for Switch 2, launching on October 23 alongside other platforms
Players will get to dive into the game on October 23, and it’ll be launching across most platforms. This includes PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Late last year, it was rumored that Activision would finally be bringing Call of Duty to Nintendo. That is now confirmed. What’s more, is that it’s launching on October 23 with all the other supported platforms. Activision also says that cross-play will be available.
The game will feature a fleshed-out campaign that “drops players into the chaos, pressure, and split-second intensity of ground-level combat.” For the multiplayer, there will be 12 fresh maps to battle other players across, and the DMZ mode will return with the extraction-style gameplay that was introduced with Modern Warfare II.
Activision also confirms that Modern Warfare 4 will have a deep focus on PC. Players will have more ways to adjust everything from fidelity to responsiveness. Several PC-specific features will be available including optimizations for performance, DLSS 4.5 support, improved performance across ray-traced reflections, and a whole lot more.
