Many made fun of the AirPods when they first launched. But it didn’t take long for everyone to see the value in truly wireless headphones, leaving behind the tangled mess of cables. Soon, phone makers started to ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack in order to push these accessories. But how can Apple improve on the AirPods? Better sound? Sure, but also maybe with a little bit of AI. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, it seems that Apple already finalized its upcoming AirPods with a built-in camera.
Apple might have finalized AirPods with camera
Now, this isn’t the first time we have heard the rumors that Apple could be working on AirPods with a camera. In fact, just last month, Gurman himself mentioned that Apple had at least six new product categories in development. The AirPods with cameras were one of them.
However, his new report suggests that Apple might have finalized the AirPods with a camera, as apparently it has reached the late stages of its development. This is where it moves from concept to a prototype that has a design and features that are close to the final product. Of course, whether or not Apple eventually commercializes it remains to be seen.
Taking the AirPods to the next level
So, what can we expect from these headphones? From the rumors, Apple will include a set of cameras in the AirPods. It’s less about giving users another way of taking photos. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if that wasn’t even possible. Instead, these cameras are designed to be paired with AI so that it can “sense” and “see” things around the wearer.
The cameras will work together with Siri to capture visual information. This means that users could ask Siri questions about objects in the area. It might even be able to help users better navigate cities and streets. For instance, the cameras could pick up on signboards and street signs to provide more accurate navigation, rather than simply relying on GPS.
There’s no word on how much these AirPods will cost. However, the addition of cameras and other sensors will most likely result in raised prices. There’s also no word on a release date yet. But given that it’s still in development, we doubt we’ll be seeing it this year.
