Nintendo has now officially announced a price increase for the Nintendo Switch 2, its current generation console/handheld hybrid. Nintendo launched the Switch 2 in June of 2025 at a price of $449.99. While it held off on raising the price of the console itself due to tariffs, it did raise prices of certain games and several of its accessories for the Switch 2 as a means of offsetting things.
While Sony and Microsoft were raising prices on the PS5 and Xbox Series X due to tariff costs, Nintendo remained vigilant and said it would continue to monitor the market situation before making a decision. Even as the memory crisis began, and both Sony and Microsoft raised prices again, Nintendo still continued to hold off. Perhaps initially because it imagined things would get better sooner rather than later. However, the memory supply issues have persisted. With companies like Samsung expecting the memory crisis to persist through 2027. Nintendo, as a result, finally made the decision to up the price on the Switch 2.
The Nintendo Switch 2 price will increase by $50 in the US, but not till September
Nintendo has officially confirmed the price increase of the Nintendo Switch 2, with the price going up by $50 in the US. This means the Switch 2 will cost $499.99 in the US soon. Nintendo also confirms that this price change won’t be happening until September 1, 2026. So consumers will still have time to grab one at the current price. Several months in fact.
That being said, September 1 is just under 4 months away, so if you wanted to grab a Nintendo Switch 2 at its initial price, now is the time to do so. Nintendo also confirms that prices for the Switch 2 are increasing in Japan, Europe, and Canada. Prices may also increase in Latin America, but Nintendo says it will share those at a later date. The price increases don’t extend to the original Switch family.
