If Claude Code’s usage limits have been a stumbling block for you lately, there is some great news. After a few weeks of uncertainty regarding how its paid tiers would work, Anthropic significantly increased usage quotas for Claude Code, and it is doing so through an unexpected AI-focused partnership with SpaceX.
Claude Code just Got a huge boost: No more peak-hour restrictions
Starting right now, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers will see their five-hour rate limits for Claude Code doubled. This is a much-needed change for power users who rely on the tool for long coding sessions. Additionally, Anthropic is removing the “peak-hour” restrictions for Pro and Max accounts. This means you won’t see your limits slashed during the busiest parts of the day.
Developers using the API also have something to celebrate. Anthropic has “substantially” raised the rate limits for the powerful Opus models. It is important to note, however, that while the five-hour windows have doubled, the weekly limits haven’t changed. So, you will still want to keep an eye on your total usage.
How Elon Musk is powering Anthropic’s latest update
The most surprising part of this announcement is where all this new power is coming from. Anthropic has signed a deal with SpaceX to use the full capacity of its Colossus 1 data center in Memphis. This facility provides over 300 megawatts of power and more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs—more than enough to meet surging demand.
This partnership is a bit of a plot twist, considering Elon Musk—who owns a large stake in SpaceX and runs the rival AI firm xAI—has been a vocal critic of Anthropic in the past. However, Musk recently shared on social media that he was “impressed” after meeting with Anthropic’s team. He jokingly reserved the right to “reclaim the compute” if the AI behaves badly, though.
Looking toward the stars
The immediate benefit is more stable performance and higher limits here on Earth. However, Anthropic is already looking up. The firm has expressed interest in partnering with SpaceX to develop “orbital AI compute capacity.” With SpaceX planning to launch thousands of satellites for orbital data centers, we might eventually see Claude running from space.
Anthropic’s latest partnership with SpaceX aims to bridge the gap between its popular $20-a-month plans and the heavy computing costs that come with advanced AI agents. If you are a paid subscriber, your experience should feel a lot more seamless starting today.
