Whenever you stream songs on YouTube Music, keeping track of whether a track came from a human artist or a generative AI model is about to get a whole lot easier. YouTube Music is rolling out new AI transparency labels right on its Now Playing screen, giving listeners an easy way to check if a song relies on synthetic audio.

YouTube announced that these new badges will sit right below the song title, right next to the artist or channel name. Tapping the small info icon opens a clean info card titled “How this was made,” which explains whether the audio was tweaked or completely built using generative tools for the lyrics, composition, or vocals. Google also confirmed that these same badges will eventually expand to the main YouTube video app.
To keep things organized, YouTube works with music partners and uses its own automated detection tools to flag songs under three main tags. Creators can mark tracks as “Fully Gen AI” for totally synthetic recordings, “Partly Gen AI” when artists mix human elements with generative tools, or “No Gen AI” for standard recordings that rely on basic studio tools like Auto-Tune.
Where YouTube stands compared to rivals
This transparency push comes as generative AI music floods popular streaming catalogs at an unprecedented rate. Recent data from Deezer reveals that fully AI-generated tracks make up nearly 44 percent of all new daily uploads on its platform, leading competitors to take drastically different paths. Services like Deezer and TIDAL actively filter out synthetic tracks, strip them from recommendation algorithms, and withhold streaming payouts.
YouTube, instead, is taking a much more open approach. YouTube’s position is that simple disclosure is better than banning or demonetizing AI tracks, letting listeners make their own decisions. In fact, YouTube keeps experimenting with its own creative AI tools, including Dream Track, which lets select creators generate custom instrumentals using voice models from participating artists.
